Dental bonding is one of the easiest and least expensive procedures. Usually a dental bonding can be performed in one office visit, unless the bonding is required for multiple teeth. Anesthesia is usually not required unless the bonding is meant to fill a cavity. There are a few disadvantages that dental bonding has to veneers and crowns. While cheaper and easier, dental bonding is not as stain resistant as crowns. Dental bonding is not as durable as crowns, veneers or fillings.

Your dentist may administer anesthesia if the bonding is used to fill a decayed tooth. Bonding Process. The second step requires that the tooth be roughened and then the application of a conditioning liquid. This will help the bonding material to adhere to the tooth forming a strong bond. The tooth colored material is actually a soft putty-like substance at first. The dentist will mold the resin into the desired shape. Following this will be an ultraviolet light that hardens the material. Dental bonding usually takes between 30 to 60 minutes per tooth.
